Moustache-A-Dog: Canine Prostate Awareness Month
This month is not just about men, it’s about your dogs too.
For us humans, Movember is all about raising awareness and funding for male health and prostate cancer through growing a moustache. But did you know that cancer is the cause of nearly 50% of disease-related pet deaths every year?
This November, we want to shift the focus to dogs and highlight Canine Prostate Awareness Month especially with the common suffering of prostate disease in older male dogs. We want to remind pet parents that your dogs can get prostate cancer too and how important it is for your dogs to receive regular check-ups.
Recent studies show that over 80% of unneutered male dogs over the ages of 5 suffer from prostate disease. However, often these symptoms are not visible with many dogs having to suffer in silence until the symptoms reach the advantaged stages. These are some of the symptoms that you should look out for in your dogs:
- Poor appetite
- Severe weight loss
- Pain when urinating
- Pain when the area of prostate is touched
- High fever
- Constipation
- Signs of blood in urine or poo
- Hard to breathe
To spread awareness this Moustache-A-Dog Movember, why not post your best photos of your dog rockin’ a moustache (or a fake comedy moustache if you like…!) on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with both the hashtag #MoustacheADog and #poppyspicnic so we can see 😊
As you can see, Katie here is very proud of her wily whiskers!
Much love to you and your pup,
Dylan and Poppy x
