FAQ section
Yes, absolutely. Our recipes have been fine-tuned by a vet and nutritional consultant to ensure they are complete and balanced to the highest FEDIAF nutritional guidelines, free from preservatives and flavourings, and contain no fillers or chemicals. FEDIAF is the European Pet Food Industry Federation and their guidelines are now a standard benchmark for the nutrients, vitamins and mineral levels needed for animals to survive and thrive. This is real nutritious food the way nature intended, which makes for happier, healthier dogs.
As more and more vets are learning about dog nutrition, they are educating themselves to the power of a fresh raw diet. Dog behavioural specialists endorse a fresh raw diet as dogs can react to sugars, carbs and additives (like some humans) . Some of the most obvious benefits include improved digestion, easier weight management, healthy skin and coat, reduced allergy symptoms, and healthy teeth and gums.
Poppy’s Picnic is a Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet (shortened to ‘BARF’ - yes, we had a little smile too when we first read this). It’s specifically created to mirror what dogs would eat naturally in the wild – raw meat, offal, bones and vegetables - and contains the full complement of essential healthy vitamins, minerals and natural oils they need for optimum health.
If you are feeding a FEDIAF balanced and DEFRA approved raw food range like Poppy's Picnic, then there is absolutely no reason why your dog would would contract any parasites. We only use the best quality ingredients in our recipes that were developed by vet and nutritional consultant, Dr Charlotte Gray MAVetMB (cantab) MRCVS to ensure your dog receives the best nutrition, and all of our food is tested before it leaves our premises. The internal functions of dogs remain much the same as their (not so) distant wild ancestors. They are carnivorous scavengers and their jaws do not move from side to side, meaning they can’t grind food. They simply chop, swallow and digest in their short digestive tract. A dog’s digestion is mainly facilitated by its large, expandable stomach filled with really strong acids to break down flesh and bone. With stomach acid like this, it’s very hard for a dog to get an upset stomach. What they would eat in the wild - meat, raw bones, bits of vegetation - is what they are built to consume and digest. Fresh raw food is as close to this natural diet as possible and is therefore easy on their digestive system.
Changing from a fully processed food diet to a raw food diet will bring some pleasant surprises. Not only will their stools be more solid and compact, the odour will also be less noxious. In the first couple of days of the switch to raw food, your dog may experience some looseness but this will soon disappear as the diet takes effect. The poo will be considerably less in volume as there are no fillers, preservatives in Poppy’s Picnic raw dog food.
