At Poppy’s Picnic, we understand that no two dogs are the same. While many thrive on raw feeding from day one, others need a little encouragement—especially fussy eaters or those transitioning from processed foods. That’s where our Mighty Mince range and Power Balls come into their own.
Both ranges are designed to be served raw or lightly cooked, giving you the flexibility to tailor mealtimes to your dog’s individual needs without compromising on nutrition.

Why Cook Our Raw Meals?
There are plenty of reasons why some dogs prefer their food gently cooked. You might choose to cook for:
-
Fussy eaters who are more tempted by the smell and texture of cooked meals
-
Dogs new to raw, especially those switching from kibble or tinned food
-
Elderly or sensitive dogs who may find lightly cooked meals easier to digest
Cooking can unlock delicious aromas, soften textures, and help make meals more inviting, particularly useful for picky pups or dogs recovering from illness.
Naturally Balanced and FEDIAF Compliant
Every meal in our Mighty Mince and Power Balls ranges is carefully crafted to meet FEDIAF nutritional guidelines. In fact, we were the first UK raw dog food company to achieve FEDIAF compliance using only natural, whole food ingredients—no artificial supplements required.
That means whether served raw or cooked, you can feel confident that your dog is receiving everything they need to thrive, including:
-
High-quality, British meat
-
Fresh vegetables and herbs
-
Natural sources of essential vitamins and minerals
These meals are nutritionally complete, balanced, and suitable for dogs of all ages—puppies included.
Does Cooking Cause Nutrient Loss?
While it’s true that cooking at high temperatures can degrade sensitive nutrients, the way you cook makes all the difference. Light cooking—such as baking for 10–15 minutes at 180–200°C, or gently pan-frying—causes minimal nutrient loss, especially when compared to the extreme heat processing used in commercial kibble.
In fact:
-
Salmon oil, used in our recipes, retains much of its omega-3 fatty acid content when cooked for a short time
-
Vitamins and antioxidants from vegetables and herbs remain largely intact with light cooking
-
The meals are naturally rich in nutrients, so even a small reduction doesn’t compromise the overall balance
