Dog Appreciation Day was founded by Colleen Paige in 2004, to show not only appreciation for our furry friends, but also to shine a light on dog abuse and the importance of providing rescue dogs a loving home. Today also honours the amazing service dogs who work hard to save lives. Here are ways you can give back to dogs and show them how much we appreciate all that they do for us.

Our commitment is to delivering the best raw dog food, fresh to freezer.

Freezing is great! It’s nature’s own (and best) preserver. Freezing hardly reduces nutritional value and there are no health risks associated with the process. The process brings food temperature down to at least minus 18 degrees, cold enough to kill off harmful parasites. It is the best natural preservative – reinforcing our belief in not adding any preservatives to Poppy’s Picnic.

With no preservatives – our food is frozen to retain its freshness – raw-fed poo doesn’t have that lingering smell and will biodegrade quickly and naturally. Read more about it here!

Dogs fed on a raw food diet are generally leaner than kibble fed dogs simply because they are processing all the food they eat!

We recommend making a straight switch to raw. Feed your dog’s old food one evening and then Poppy’s Picnic in the morning. Most dogs will enjoy it from day one!

For us humans, Movember is all about raising awareness and funding for male health and prostate cancer through growing a moustache. But did you know that cancer is the cause of nearly 50% of disease-related pet deaths every year? This November, we want to shift the focus to dogs and highlight Canine Prostate Awareness Month especially with the common suffering of prostate disease in older male dogs. 

Our pets’ hearing is far more sensitive than our own. Those shrieking firecrackers can reach up to 150 decibels which is equivalent to a jumbo jet taking off just 25 meters away (enough to cause eardrum rupture). Missing animal reports increase by a third for dogs and a quarter for cats — it’s scary stuff for them and us. Check out Poppy’s four pointers for a happier bonfire night this year.
